Ursula K. Le Guin’s fantasy novel A Wizard of Earthsea is published in the United States. It is considered a classic of children’s literature as well as fantasy, in which it has had a significant influence. The storey is set in the fictitious Earthsea archipelago and follows Ged, a young magician born in a village on the island of Gont. He demonstrates amazing power as a child and enrols at a wizardry school, where his prickly temperament causes him to clash with a fellow student. Ged’s spell goes astray during a magical combat, unleashing a shadow creature that attacks him. The storey follows Ged as he tries to break free from the beast.
