Robert E. Howard single-handedly developed the genre of sword and sorcery in a spectacular career that lasted only twelve years until his untimely end. Howard’s first thirteen Conan stories are collected in this volume, which is lavishly illustrated by artist Mark Schultz. They are presented in their original versions–in some cases for the first time in more than seventy years–and in the sequence in which Howard wrote them. Along with dark fantasy classics like “The Tower of the Elephant” and swashbuckling adventure classics like “Queen of the Black Coast,” The Coming of Conan the Cimmerian contains a wealth of previously unpublished material, including the first submitted draught of Conan’s debut, “Phoenix on the Sword,” Howard’s synopses for “The Scarlet Citadel,” and Howard’s synopses for “The Scarlet Citadel.”
