In this novel, Og Mandino narrates the narrative of Hafid, an impoverished camel child who is working hard to improve his situation. He is entrusted to the care of a wealthy caravan trader and sent to Bethlehem to sell one robe. He fails to sell the robe and instead gives it to a destitute youngster on his way back. He goes to his master, ashamed of his actions, but is surprised to learn that his master is dying and has left ten scrolls for him, which were given to him by another wealthy man.
