Maria Merryweather, an orphaned girl, feels as if she has arrived in Paradise when she comes at Moonacre Manor. Her new guardian, Sir Benjamin, is kind and amusing; the Manor immediately feels like home; and everyone and everything she meets feels like an old friend. But underlying all of this beauty and comfort, there is a tragedy that has loomed over Moonacre Manor and the town for years, and Maria is determined to learn more about it, change it, and give her own life storey a happy ending.
